In a recent Equality Tribunal ruling, a pregnant employee employed as an Accounts Assistant was awarded €52,000. The employee was working as an Accounts Assistant in an office, the employee had issued an invoice to a customer shortly after she had given her MD written confirmation of her pregnancy. She was summonsed to a meeting without knowing the agenda, and following the meeting – she was escorted off the premises without any opportunity to leave her workplace in an orderly fashion. The meeting lasted only 5 minutes, where the MD had blamed the employee for issuing an incorrect invoice. The employee had no previous workplace issues, and the invoice issue was, in effect, the MD’s error. (DEC-E2015-095)
