What changes to the Parent’s Leave are coming into effect in April 2021?

In the last budget (December 2020) the government agreed to increase parents leave from 2 weeks to 5 weeks for each parent with effect from April 1st 2021. This means that each parent can take time off around the birth or adoption of their child or the birth of their spouse or partner. The other change with comes into effect is the extension to the period of time in which they can take this leave. Previously it had to be taken within the first 12 months of the arrival of the baby, now that is extended to within the first 24 months.
