Calculating Public Holiday Entitlement

Most employees are entitled to paid leave on public holidays.

If the employee is normally rostered to work on the day of the Public Holiday, then that day is paid in their normal payroll (not deducted and not paid extra). Just no change to their monthly salary payment.

If the employee is not normally rostered to work on the day of the Public Holiday, then they are entitled to receive 1/5 of their weekly pay for the day.

If the employee is not rostered to work on the day of the Public Holiday, and if they are required to work a public holiday, they are entitled to an additional day’s pay.

If the employee is part-time, they should have worked 40 hours in the previous 5 weeks to be eligible for a payment.
